Cheap Foods to Live By!

The Ramen Noodle – When we were lucky, we could purchase 10 packets of these beauties for just $1. All we had to do was add water, and boil or microwave – life couldn’t get easier than this. And no, we never read the nutritional information on these, because (A) we never liked horror stories, and (B) we knew darn well there was nothing healthy (besides the water) in Ramen Noodles.

Milwaukee’s Best – In Carlisle, we found a beer distributor that actually sold this for $6.00 a case! It was one of the greatest finds of all time. Sure, it was 45 minutes away from the Mont Alto campus, but it was worth the drive.

The $1.88 hoagie at McClannihan’s – It was about the size of a Shortie at Wawa (that’s what she said), and all the fixin’s were free. I’m quite sure they did not use the “top shelf” lunchmeat on these, but I was a college student, and (a) I didn’t care, and (b) my taste buds were shot from all of the beer consumed.

19 Cent Hot Dogs at the Unimart on Tuesdays – This solved breakfast, lunch, AND dinner for me on Tuesdays. Again, the fixins (which included onions, relish, chili, and mustard) were included. Life couldn’t possibly get better than spending less than $1.00 on food for the entire day.

The 99 Cent Menu at Wendy’s – I frequented this place, and you know what, their 99 cent menu is still the best in the business … not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

5 Cent Wings at the Café on Sunday evenings – Sure, the wings were tiny, but they were 5 FRIGGIN’ CENTS! My roommate Mung and I would go there to watch the Sunday night football game, eat 100 wings, and still pay less than $5 – it was crazy.

Toe-riffic Spike!

Let me explain this picture - it is a recreation of Mung landing on my
big toe playing beach volleyball at Mont Alto. Sure, it's a bad
recreation - there is a lot of snow on the ground, but f*ck it - I still like
the picture.

You see, back in the day, Mung was a great volleyball player. I was
merely o.k., I guess - since I was short, and jumped about as well as
George Costanza did with those sneakers. One day, when we were playing
(without shoes on - that's what beach volleyball is all about), I set up
Mung for a spike (actually, I'm not sure if I did, but it makes the story
sound better). Mung jumped high in the air, and hit the ball really
hard ... however, it was nowhere near as hard as his heal hitting my big
toe.

My toenail shattered, and bled profusely, which encouraged the sand to
stick to my nail bed. This, in turn, helped to welcome the toenail
fungus that plagued me for many years, until I went to the foot doctor and
spent thousands of dollars on Sporanox to finally put an end to the
fungal assault on my nails.

Who's The Guy on the Right?

This is one of my favorite photos of all time - it was taken on a cold February day in front of the Franklin Institute. Pictured are Slant, me, and Mung ... and some dude that was selling some kind of cheap trinkets. You might notice that we were not entirely sober at this point, and we thought it would be really funny to have our picture taken with this "person of the streets."
