The Pantheon of Foods

There are certain times and places in our lives in which we come across truly incredible foods – ones we know we’ll never, ever find again. It is bittersweet, in a way. For instance, I remember the hot turkey sandwiches and hamburgers at Interboro high school. They were like a touch of heaven in every delicious morsel. To this very day, I still have longings for these items.

Penn State Mont Alto was no different. Their wonderful creation was the chicken cosmo. I’m not sure what the differences were from this sandwich and a normal fried chicken sandwich, but when these were on the menu at the local cafeteria, one could almost sense the electricity immediately upon lifting one’s head from their pillow. There was a certain magic on campus. 12:00 noon couldn’t come fast enough. The cafeteria lines wouldn’t move briskly enough. Time seemed to slow down, because of the increasing anticipation of wrapping one’s lips around the seemingly “immaculately conceived” sandwich.

One was never enough. These sandwiches were like Lays Potato Chips – you couldn’t eat just one, it was impossible. I think I ate 3 one time. I saw my friend Mung eat 4 without breaking a sweat. To this day, I long to have a chicken cosmo like the one I had at Mont Alto many a year ago.

Pineapple freshly picked and cut from the fields in Hawai'i.

The honey stung chicken salad subs downstairs. Good stuff.
